A new action plan to combat domestic violence is being prepared in Azerbaijan. According to the plan, a data bank on people subjected to domestic violence will be created in the country.
It should be noted that domestic violence means the intentional physical or moral harm of one person to another through the abuse of family, joint or previous cohabitation relationships.
How many people were victims of domestic violence in Azerbaijan this year?
Modern.az has contacted the State Committee for Family, Women and Children’s Problems about this issue.
The institution reported that in 2024, the committee received 486 requests related to domestic violence:
“The majority of victims of domestic violence are women and children. Thus, this year, 38 men, 430 women and 364 children were subjected to domestic violence. The perpetrators of domestic violence are 438 men and 213 women.”
The information states that when the request is received by the committee, it is immediately processed and sent to the relevant institutions:
“Complaints are transmitted to the local executive authorities and the Ministry of the Interior. Monitoring and coordination groups in the field of domestic violence operate in the local executive authorities. When a request is received, a commission is immediately created and, if necessary If necessary, the person is sent and provided with short-term protection. In the event of a crime, it is registered with the Ministry of the Interior and preventive measures are taken.
