Russia and Iran made a statement on the “catastrophic” situation in Gaza

At the meeting of the Group of Friends for the Defense of the UN Charter (GDU), held with the participation of representatives of the participating countries, the humanitarian catastrophe in the Palestinian territories and ways to resolve the Palestinian issue were discussed. The Russian Federation was represented by the Special Representative of the President for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

During the event, participants adopted a ministerial declaration in which they emphasized the need to “respect the rights of the Palestinian people” and achieve a just solution to the conflict based on international law. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the activities of the State Duma contribute to strengthening the “UN-centered architecture” and creating a more equitable multipolar world.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called on the international community to increase pressure on Israel. In his speech, he said that “the UN must document violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza and ensure that Israeli officials are held accountable for crimes against humanity.”

The Iranian minister emphasized the importance of executing the arrest warrants of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli officials. According to him, this will be a step towards equity and the administration of justice. “International law does not grant the right of self-defense to occupying regimes like Israel,” Araqchi said, adding that countries that support Israel’s policies, including the United States, must be held accountable, Tasnim reported.

The Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter includes 20 states, including Russia, China, Iran, Syria, Venezuela, North Korea and other countries. The Group’s main objective is to defend the principles of the UN Charter and counteract unilateral actions that violate international law.

Previously, Cursor reported that the former UNRWA chief actively collaborated with Hamas and Islamic Jihad, calling terrorists to unity.
