With just over a year to go until the 2026 municipal elections, the starting line of the race for Paris City Council is already well prepared. Without waiting for Anne Hidalgo to announce that she will not run for a third term – which she did on Tuesday, November 26 in an interview with World –, requests have multiplied in recent weeks, both from the left and the right.
Within the Socialist Party, the senator and president of the common group of Paris in the Paris Council, Rémi Féraud, is the candidate officially supported by Anne Hidalgo. Former mayor of 10my municipality and a long-time loyalist to the outgoing mayor, took a step forward on November 11 by declaring that “prepare[ait] » be a candidate in the municipal elections on the left. This role of dolphin was assumed for a long time by Emmanuel Grégoire, until he left the City Council to be elected member of the National Assembly during the early legislative elections of June 30 and July 7.
“More determined than ever” to occupy the mayor’s office, with whom he is currently in conflict, declared on November 19 that he wanted “bring a new story to Paris, a new proposal, a new project” and they already have the support of 450 socialist activists from the Paris federation (out of a total of 3,000). He is also scheduled to kick off his campaign with a rally on Tuesday.
The hypotheses of Gabriel Attal and Sophia Chikirou
The two socialists will have to count on the senator and co-president of the Communists and Citizens group in the Paris Council: Ian Brossat made it known, a few days after Emmanuel Grégoire, that he too ” available “ and ready to participate in a possible primary in case Anne Hidalgo is not a candidate. Among Les Ecologistes, who are also part of the municipal majority, no one has declared themselves yet, but Parisian activists have ruled out, for the first time, the possibility of an independent candidacy. But Paris senator Yannick Jadot or deputy mayor David Belliard, who was already a candidate in 2020, could be tempted, especially because they believe that the time has come for one of their own to occupy the number one position in the City Council.
On the side of La France Insoumise, with which socialists and communists refuse to associate, the question of the lists is not yet on the agenda and the idea of a candidacy of the deputy of the 6thmy Paris constituency, Sophia Chikirou, is still just a hypothesis.
