From today until next Saturday, November 30, the Church of La Merced in Cordoba once again becomes the scene of the activities included in the Baroque daysa proposal that emanates from the Delegation of the Presidency, Interior Government and Housing of the Provincial Council of Córdoba and it is in its fourth edition with the objective of “seeking to raise awareness of the Baroque heritage and the recovery work that has been carried out for its conservation and enhancement”.
The Area Manager, Marta Siles, was responsible for inaugurating this proposal which “allows to publicize the actions undertaken in terms of restoration of the historical-artistic heritage and to recreate the cultural environment of the Baroque era, present in the Palacio de la Merced”, a- he added.
Among the restoration projects that the Córdoba City Hall will carry out in 2024 are five paintings, two architectural groups and the Roman mosaic located on the white staircase of the Palace of Mercy.
Regarding the work planned for 2025, the delegate of the Interior Government of the Provincial Deputation announced that the “Adoration of the Magi”, an oil on canvas from the 17th century and “San Acisclo” and “Santa Victoria”, oil paintings also from the same century, both by Valdés Leal. Likewise, “Saint Peter and Saint Paul”, a 17th century oil on canvas made by a disciple of Antonio del Castillo, will also be recovered; Saint Anne with the Virgin (1878), by Juan Manuel Cazalilla; and the Passionist Child Jesus sculpture, an anonymous image from the late 18th century.
The Baroque Days also include theatrical offerings. Thus, on Thursday 28 you will be able to enjoy the staging of the Grand Théâtre du Monde, Barca’s Calderonin charge of Loyola Theater Group. And the music is there with two concerts of baroque music, on Friday 29 with ‘Guerreros amoros’, by baritone Javier Povedano and soprano Suzana Nadejde with the Averroes quartet. The other will take place on Saturday 30 and will be performed by countertenor Manuel Ruiz, the Ziryab Choir and the Cordoba Baroque Orchestra who will perform works by Purcell.
Complete the programming guided theater tours to the baroque heritage of the Provincial Deputation, by Francisco Mellado and the actress Elisabeth González. The program also travels throughout the province, with guided tours of the Baroque heritage of Lucena (November 27), Priego de Córdoba (November 28) and Aguilar de la Frontera (November 29). The trip will be by bus leaving at 8:30 a.m. from the Provincial Council and returning at 2:30 p.m.
