Minister Ángel Víctor Torres visits Letur, where 45 families are still out of their homes due to floods

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, traveled this Tuesday to Letur, the municipality of Castile-La Mancha most devastated by DANA on October 29, where six people died and 45 families are still outside their homes.

From there, he said there were more than 300 requests for help in the area. Those affected will receive the money directly and, in the case of businesses, the amounts vary from 5,000 euros for the self-employed to 150,000 euros for small and medium-sized businesses, depending on the damage. In Letur, tax agents present in the municipality have already collected 80% of aid to SMEs and the self-employed.

After ensuring that the procedure was reduced as much as possible, having a single form for all requests that reach the different sectors of the Government, Torres thanked the work of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha, the Provincial Delegation of Albacete and the Letur City Council to seek solutions.

The minister also recognized that “there is a lot of work to do” in a “very beautiful” city and regretted the six deaths due to the flood, “which is irreparable”. The minister was accompanied by the second vice president of the Council, José Manuel Caballero; the government delegate in Castile-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón; and the mayor of the municipality, Sergio Marín.

The old town moves five millimeters per year

For his part, the mayor warned Tuesday that “there is data” which shows that part of the old town moves by five millimeters per year, which he transmitted to the Minister of Public Works.

“We must use all means with the formulas that geologists and experts tell us to know how it is progressing”, whether it is vertical or horizontal and also to what extent. “Make it more precise, minute by minute,” he insisted.

Marín reviewed the work underway in the municipality of cleaning, housing assessment, as well as recovery of basic services such as electricity, water and sewers. Currently, seven buildings have been demolished, corresponding to 13 houses, due to the risks of collapse of the structure and, in the coming weeks, other houses will be demolished, if there is no other option.

People removed from their homes have been relocated with other relatives or acquaintances and receive “daily” care through social services. Psychological support is also offered to them.

Five ERTE workers in Castile-La Mancha

Furthermore, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Employment, Patricia Franco, declared after the Government Council that there were five people affected by ERTE in the region: three in Letur, from the sector hotelier, and two in Mira, workers in a retirement home. . Franco believes that in the near future other ERTEs will be presented in Letur due to the paralysis of tourist activity.
