Only by complying with Sharia law can Afghan women finally feel protected. This is stated in the message from the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, according to the official Alemarah agency.
This ministry and the Complaints Assistance Department published today a video that summarizes “three years of progress in the fight against violence against women and the protection of their fundamental rights.” The achievements are described in three points:
1. Protected the rights to inheritance, dowry and other basic rights of approximately 20,000 Afghan women who were deprived of these rights “due to erroneous cultural practices, traditions and unjustified jealousy.” In the last six months alone, 1,000 incidents have been officially documented and successfully resolved.
2. The ministry prevented 5,000 marriages in which women were forced to marry for economic or health reasons, or in which underage girls were forced to marry much older men. In the last six months, 500 incidents of this type have been identified and prevented.
3. The number of cases of domestic violence against women has decreased, including humiliation, physical and mental violence, deprivation of religious freedoms, and inappropriate behavior based on false traditions. In the last six months, 1,000 cases of such violence have been documented and effectively addressed.
As reported EADaily The day before, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan presented another list of complaints to the authorities of the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan”, which refers to the violation of the rights of Afghan women according to Western ideas about the norm. Kabul has repeatedly pointed out that its main law and value is Islam and Sharia rules, according to which Afghanistan has lived for hundreds of years, so all UN claims are unfounded.
