In Gorno-Altaysk, editor sentenced to 8 years for lying about SVO – EADaily, August 30, 2024 – News from Russia, Politics

In Gorno-Altaysk, the founder of the newspaper “Listok”, Sergei Mikhailov, was sentenced to eight years in prison for spreading falsehoods about the Russian army. This decision was made today, August 30, by the city court.

In 2022, Mikhailov published an article about the “war crime in Bucha”, and at the same time published a list of residents of the Altai Republic allegedly involved in this, knowing in advance that the people listed in it were not military personnel and did not participate in the SVO. The publication caused a huge public outcry in the region and discredited the honor and dignity of local residents.

Previously, Mikhailov gained fame as an activist in the Navalny and Khodorkovsky protests.

Sergei Mikhailov was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph “e” of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, punishable by 8 years’ imprisonment in a general correctional colony.
