The AP-66 rehabilitation works have been completed and the concessionaire is expected to open the highway in both directions tomorrow, November 27, at 8 p.m., barring serious obstacles.
Throughout the morning, operators will carry out the final work on the dynamic network. On the ground, a 270 meter long detour was made, allowing a descent route, towards Asturias, and two ascent routes, towards León.
Both separated by a rigid New Jersey-type concrete barrier of a wider width than normal, approximately four meters each. This allows snow plows to pass.
On the margins, metal barrier type barriers have been placed with high visibility reflectors for marking. In addition, 100 meters of dynamic barrier of 9,000 KJ were installed, this is the largest model installed in Spain.
Likewise, this model is eight meters high and has the maximum possible energy capacity. Its objective is to protect vehicles and the detour from possible landslides during clearing work.
To accommodate the three detour routes, as well as the dynamic barrier and its protection, it was necessary to carry out snow removal requiring the use of explosives and mechanical means.
The work to enable the detour and resolve the detachment is carried out by the highway concessionaire, while the work of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is to inspect and ensure that everything is done correctly.
