Canary Islands strengthens health care in El Hierro due to increase in migrant arrivals

The Canary Islands have announced a health reinforcement plan on the island of El Hierro due to the increase in the arrival of migrantsin the fall. This is what the Government of the Canaries has put forward and it is a plan with several measures: it has created a specific primary care team to be able to serve migrants in the port, and a strategic project will also be deployed.

The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo (CC), explained that these measures were taken so that ““The island’s residents would not see their health care reduced” due to the arrival of migrants.

In statements to journalists, Clavijo said that a specific primary care team has been created to care for migrants arriving at the port of La Restinga and, at the same time, a “strategic project” will be deployed so that they do not care for migrants. the inhabitants of the island will be diminished.

Clavijo stressed that sometimes migrants arrive in a state “very deteriorated” and require medical-social care, for which the “a huge effort” carried out by the island’s health workers.

And it was concentrated on the island last year 37% of arrivals in Spain. During the year, it has received more than 14,000 people, a number greater than the inhabitants of El Hierro, who number around 11,000. In fact, on Thursday morning, two canoes alone arrived on the island with 130 people.
