Japanese Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi and former Defense Department head Shigeru Ishiba have entered the second round of elections for president of the country’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). TASS reports this.
In the first round, Takaichi obtained 181 votes, Ishiba, 154. The former Minister of the Environment came in third place with 136 votes. Shinjiro Koizumi. The minimum required to win is 368 of 735 votes.
The second round is reported to begin almost immediately after the results of the first round are announced. All LDP members of parliament participate in the vote.
The president of the party and, therefore, the new prime minister of the country will be the candidate who obtains more votes than his opponent.
