The patrol boat “Alborán”, navy ship based in Cartagena, arrived this Friday at the port of Valencia where it will remain docked until Sunday 29. This stopover, which aims to establish a naval presence in the city, is part of the training practices of future fisheries inspectors belonging to the navy. The vessel “Alborán” set sail on September 16 to carry out specific fisheries surveillance tasks and permanent maritime surveillance and security tasks in the Mediterranean. The practices of future fisheries inspectors began on September 23 and will continue until October 3, and include the knowledge necessary to carry out inspections of vessels dedicated to fishing, ensuring compliance with European and national regulations.

The Altura patrol boat “Alborán” was delivered to the Navy in 1997thanks to agreements concluded between the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Ministry of Defense. It is called “Alborán”, an island of national sovereignty located in the Mediterranean Sea.

Like the Navy patrol boats “Arnomendi” and “Tarifa”, it was recently modernized thanks to investment from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, equipping the vessels with new technologies to improve their capabilities monitoring and control, as well as its energy and operational efficiency.

The “Alborán” is part of the Maritime Action Force (FAM) which, within the Fleet, is made up of all the units whose main task is to prepare for the protection of national maritime interests and the control of maritime areas of sovereignty and national interest, by taking charge, with a global approach, to ensure permanent cooperation with the various Administration bodies with expertise in the maritime domain, which constitutes the Navy’s contribution to State action at sea.

Its main task is the inspection, monitoring and support of the fishing fleet in international fisheries and in national fishing zones, effectively contributing to the protection of marine resources and compliance with fishing regulations.
