The TBA21 Foundation and the Junta de Andalucía confirm the end of their collaboration at the C3A in Cordoba

Farewell day, words of gratitude and verbs in the past perfect tense: “It’s been a fantastic trip.” The Thyssen-Bornemisza Contemporary Art Foundation (To be determined21) opened its latest exhibition at the C3A this Friday. The words of the participants clearly expressed it and later confirmed it: the agreement for three years for his works to be exhibited there will not be renewed, as ABC had suggested.

The director of the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art (CAAC), Jimena Blazquezrecalled that there were still six months left in the agreement and confirmed that this agreement “will not continue in this format”. This left the door open for new forms of collaboration for the future, but not as has happened since 2022.

“The agreement had a duration of three years and is coming to an end. Just because they were signed doesn’t mean they have to renew“, said Jimena Blázquez, who insisted that this is not the end of the relationship with Francesca Thyssen’s collection.

The C3A will continue as is until 2021, inviting Andalusian and foreign artists and curators to take charge. “It is a museum open to all disciplines“, said Jimena Blázquez, who insisted that collaborations have been opened with many cultural centers in Córdoba.

Previously, Jimena Blázquez herself and the Culture Councilor, Isabelle Albasand Francesca Thyssen thanked each other for the work they accomplished together over the years.

The collector, for example, praised the work of the town hall, but assured that she would have liked the mayor of Cordoba to be present at the inauguration, Jose Maria Bellido. The adviser, in an interview with ABC, had previously said it was likely the deal would not go ahead.

What will not change compared to the recent period is that the C3A will not have a specific director, as happened during the phase of Álvaro Rodríguez Fominaya. “I am now director and we are strengthening the team with a deputy director,” he assured, but there will be no one in charge.

Projects

Commissioners and experts will be hired to collaborate and specific projectsalthough the maximum coordination will be within the CAAC, to which the building of the Córdoba hexagons belongs.

With the confirmation of the news, a three-year collaboration in which the TBA21 Foundation organized three exhibitionsall renewed after a few months and numerous activities around the C3A, with a strong contribution from Córdoba City Hall.

The Council’s decision opens a new stage which is already underway: with “Ecologies of Peace II” Two other smaller exhibitions were inaugurated, organized by the management itself and unrelated to the TBA21 collection.
