1,100 historical tablets from the Achaemenid (Persian) Empire period (550-330 BC), which Iran sent to the United States for examination in 1936, have been returned to the country. The artifacts were brought to Iran on a plane carrying Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian.
Oku.AzThis was reported to the Iranian media by Ali Darabi, the country’s Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Crafts.
According to him, these works were discovered in 1932 during archaeological and tourist excavations in the surroundings of Persepolis and in 1936 they were taken abroad for research purposes.
It was also noted that the returned tablets were written in cuneiform in the “Elamic” alphabet and contained themes depicting the life of the Iranians during the Achaemenid period.
Darabi emphasized that some of these works were returned to Iran before (in 1948, 1950, 2004 and 2023).
