THE Civil Guard stopped a official of the Cordoba Prison accused of corruption for accepting payments from inmates in exchange for a grant prison license and benefits. This arrest is in addition to that of another official arrested a few days ago for smuggling drugs, mobile and food at the penitentiary center.
The police operation, led by Cordoba Newspaperbegan after the inmates themselves sent several letters to the prison management warning them “corrupt practices” among those responsible for the center, located in the Cordoban municipality of Alcolea.
The last of the arrests took place last Saturday. The arrested person, having the rank of department head, was part of the prison treatment commission. This collegial body is responsible for evaluating and supervising prisoners and their participation in reintegration programs, and meets periodically to make decisions regarding their treatment and the possible granting of prison benefits.
The Civil Guard agents who arrested him searched his locker and found prohibited substances, according to the aforementioned media. The official was placed at the disposal of the judicial authority this Monday.
