Sweatshop in San Blas dismantled due to serious labor and safety irregularities

Officers from the San Blas-Canillejas and Moratalaz neighborhood stations of the Madrid Municipal Police, in collaboration with the Labor and Social Security Inspectorate, intervened in a clandestine vehicle cleaning and repair workshop located in the Las Bars neighborhood, as reported by a spokesperson for the local body.

The operation took place on October 24 around 10:30 a.m., rue Octubre, 18. After a preliminary investigation, the agents, accompanied by an agent from the Labor Inspectorate, arrived at the establishment, which operated without a sign and with a closed door. inside there were five people in full activity.

They questioned the workers on the site and requested the presence of the owner of the activity, who was present on site. After reviewing the documentation, they verified that three of the employees were in an irregular situation in Spain, while another person was not registered with social security and another did not have a work permit.

When speaking with the business owner, he admitted that the workshop did not have a license to carry out vehicle cleaning and repair activities. Deficiencies detected included lack of building permits, lack of liability insurance, handling of hazardous waste and lack of complaint forms.

To this it must be added that in terms of safety, the establishment only had one expired fire extinguisher and presented serious risks by obstructing the emergency exit, the hall and the stairs with goods of all kinds. The non-existence of smoke extraction and carbon monoxide detection systems was also confirmed, non-compliant with air quality and sustainability regulations. For all this, the agents drew up a report.

In addition, the Labor Inspectorate has initiated procedures aimed at sanctioning labor and social security irregularities. Likewise, the accumulation of hazardous waste and the absence of minimum safety measures in the premises, whose roof presented a fracture with risk of collapse, were reported.
