The third vice-president and minister of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, valued it as “a a huge honor” the candidacy for the post of European Commissioner proposed by the Spanish government, admitting that she is “enthusiastic” about the position and about the “common project of peace, well-being and effort” proposed by Ursula von der Leyen.
“Europe is a common project of peace, prosperityof well-being, of opportunity and this requires an effort on the part of the various European institutions, including the College of Commissioners”, and in this sense, he described as “extremely correct” the political strategy set out last month by the President of the Commission after his re-election.
During the visit on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Gorona del Viento and the area proposed as a national park in the “Sea of Calm”, he clarified that he was waiting for the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to close his team, but he insisted that this made him “illusion” to help build a “better Europe”.
He appreciated Von der Leyen’s political orientations for this “European dream of prosperity for all”, where the “ability to offer greater integration to Europeans and to respond to the “big challenges” that are being experienced at the moment. According to him, “this vocation of prosperity for all also requires an update of many principles of industrial policy, economic policy and capacity to offer Europeans greater integration that allows us to respond together” to these challenges.
“I am particularly enthusiastic,” she said, stressing the aim of participating in “building the best Europe”, in a framework “where I feel well represented”. He put this forward in relation to the portfolio on offer, present your own proposals and then go through the “democratic and transparent” exercise of the European Parliament, where the College of Commissioners is “responsible”, with written questions and during a public hearing with the parliamentary groups.
A “difficult” parity
He deplored that the creation of a joint commission “is difficult” since “more men than women” were proposed, as Von der Leyen wished.
