Mexican president analyzes migration and drug trafficking with Trump

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on social media that she had a conversation with Donald Trump. He said he told Trump that many migrants are not arriving at the U.S. border right now because they remain in Mexico.

“We also talked about strengthening cooperation on security issues within our sovereignty and the campaign we are carrying out in the country to prevent the consumption of fentanyl,” — Sheinbaum wrote.

Trump and Sheinbaum spoke after the president-elect promised massive tariff increases on goods from Mexico, Canada and China, starting on the first day of his administration.

“On January 20 (Inauguration Day)… I will sign all necessary paperwork to impose a 25 percent tariff on all goods entering the United States from Mexico and Canada.” – Trump said.

Trump added that thousands of people travel to the United States through Mexico and Canada, generating unprecedented levels of crime and drug trafficking.

He said this will continue “until drugs, particularly fentanyl, and all illegal aliens stop invading our country,” adding that both Mexico and Canada can easily solve this problem, Interfax clarifies.
