Construction work on the future Southwestern Green Walk is beginning to generate the first traffic detours. This major project to cover the A-5 includes the construction of a new illuminated roundabout on Avenida de los Poblados, at Flor del Coral Street, which will allow vehicles traveling on said road to change direction, towards Aluche, to access the future tunnel. The works will require the occupation of certain traffic lanes and sidewalks on Avenida de los Poblados and Calle de Pilar, in the Latina district. These conditions will last from this Thursday to January 17 and will not impact public transport bus routes that pass through this environment.

During the first phase of construction of this roundabout, the Village Avenuethe exterior traffic lane in both directions, as well as the sidewalks attached to Pilar Street. On this road, the southbound lane will also be closed, between Alejandro Navarro Street and Flor del Coral Street, as well as the sidewalk attached to this lane and the exit lane to Los Poblados Avenue.

In this way, traffic will be diverted from Coral Flower Street Corner of Calle de Pilar with Calle de Alejandro Navarro, Calle de Pilar, Calle de la Flor del Coral, Avenida del Padre Piquer and Calle de Tembleque. Additionally, traffic from the left turn at the Avenida de los Poblados traffic light will be redirected to the roundabout with an intersection on Calle de Meliloto to make the turn and return to the entrance to Calle de Pilar.

For pedestrians, a route will be set up along the sidewalk of Pilar Street closest to the buildings.

3.2 kilometers traveled

The project, which will last approximately two years, will cover 3.2 kilometers of the A-5 from Padre Piquer Avenue to Portugal Avenue, reducing daily traffic in the area by 90 percent, which today reaches ‘today. 80,000 vehicles. The future promenade will have an approximate area of ​​80,000 square meters and will be home to almost 7,300 new trees, with great importance for pedestrian routes and cycle paths. It will also have seven nodes along the route delimited by squares, pergolas, public spaces and parks in order to condense the recreational activity of the area.

Underground, the tunnel will have a distribution of three lanes in each direction, the closest to the central reservation of the two roads will be designed to be used as HOV buses, with modular signaling depending on traffic to optimize its use.
