At least 43 people, including 37 children, drowned and three others went missing during the Jivitputrika festival in the Indian state of Bihar.

People are reported to have died during sacred bathing ceremonies in rivers and lakes in different parts of the state during the festival.
“A total of 43 bodies have been found so far. The search operation continues,” the department said.
Tragic events were recorded in 15 districts of the state.
“Jivitputrika” is one of the most important festivals of Bihar. At this time, Indian women fast for the well-being of their children and perform sacred bathing ceremonies in basins of water. As a rule, women also bring their children to the religious ceremony.
