“It so happened that the president of the Writers’ Union of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Aigiz Baimukhametov, gave me a book by the famous Kazakh writer Kemel Tokayev, father of the president of Kazakhstan. It begins with a prologue by Kassym-Zhomart Kemelevich, in which he says that his father’s main holiday until the end of his life was Victory Day. Kemel Tokaev is a Soviet writer, journalist and public figure. He was drafted into the Red Army in 1942. While fighting on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, he commanded a machine gun squadron. Orders and medals awarded.
