Germany has signed a deportation agreement with Türkiye

German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed an agreement on the deportation of Turks from Germany.

According to reports, 200 Turkish citizens who were denied asylum will soon be returned to their countries from Germany. At the same time, Ankara announced that it is prepared to receive up to 500 citizens per week. It is noted that more than 13,500 Turks in Germany must leave the country.

According to the publication, in exchange for signing the agreement, Türkiye hopes to simplify the visa regime. Negotiations between Berlin and Ankara on the signing of the agreement continued for several months. Diplomatic relations around the start of deportations from Germany have not ceased since November 2023.

The number of Turkish citizens seeking asylum in Germany is reported to have increased by 150% compared to 2022. Turkey currently ranks third, after Afghanistan, in the number of citizens seeking asylum in Germany.
