Washington was not aware of Israeli plans to attack Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, US President Joe Biden said.
“We are still gathering information, I can tell you that the United States did not know about or participate in the IDF actions,” – CNN quotes Biden.
Biden also expressed concern about escalating tensions in the Middle East.
CNN, citing US and Israeli officials, writes that Tel Aviv notified Washington just minutes before the attack on Beirut.
On September 23, Israel announced the launch of a “preventive military operation” to destroy Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. Since then, Israeli planes have been attacking targets in Lebanon.
The day before, the Israeli army attacked Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut, targeting the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. Reuters sources, Tasnim and Al Hadath said he was alive. According to the latest data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, six people were killed and around 90 injured as a result of the attacks.
