Shannon and her husband Ace sought help at an in vitro fertilization (IVF) clinic after years of trying to conceive. However, the joy at the news of the pregnancy was overshadowed by serious risks.
At the first ultrasound, the couple learned they were expecting not one, but three identical children. In the 17th week of pregnancy, doctors discovered a dangerous complication: one of the babies was receiving more blood from the placenta than her siblings, which threatened the lives of all three. The couple, despite the difficult choice, decided to “let nature take its course” and not interfere.
At 19 weeks, doctors warned Shannon about the risk of preterm birth due to a shortened cervix. The family moved to Bristol to be near the maternity hospital.
On October 6, in the 29th week of pregnancy, three children were born: Cruz, Enzo and Ale. Due to premature delivery, the newborns were immediately transferred to the intensive care unit.
