At least nine immigrants died and 48 were missing when the boat they were traveling in capsized near El Hierro, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, Salvamento Marítimo reported Saturday.
In a statement, the Spanish sea rescue organization said that 84 people were traveling on board the boat and that “9 bodies have been found” while a “search operation for 48 missing people” is underway.
