The Andalusian women’s helpline recorded 26 percent more calls every day in July and August compared to the first half of the year.

The helpline for Andalusian women 900 200 999 managed by the Department of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality throughthe Andalusian Institute of Women (IAM), participated during the last months of July and August in a total of 8,883 callswhich represents an average of 148 interactions per day, or 26.4% more than in the January-June period, when the daily average of calls was 117.

This summer, consultations also increased, particularly those related to gender-based violence, as well as emergency shelters for women who suffer this type of violence, as reported this Saturday by the aforementioned ministry in a note.

The Minister of Social Inclusion, Youth, Family and Equality, Loles Lopezhighlighted “the importance for Andalusian women of this line which offers information and advice in multiple areas and, above all, for victims of gender violence”.

In this sense, he recalled that the telephone 900 200 999 is linked to the emergency service 112“which allows the Andalusian Institute of Women to act in a more agile and efficient way, as well as to activate the necessary resources from the first moment during incidents related to gender violence”.

López insisted that this resource “saves lives” and encouraged women and those around them “to record this figure” which is operational 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Precisely, with the aim of “expanding the visibility” of this telephone, the Andalusian Government launched on July 1 the campaign “There are things we cannot forget this summer 900 200 999. Andalusian telephone service for women “. Since its launch, more than a hundred town halls, festivals and fairs throughout Andalusia have joined this initiative of the Council against Gender and Sexual Violence.

In July and August, the 900 200 999 telephone number answered a total of 8,883 calls, representing almost 30% of all interactions that occurred. so far this year, which totals 30,053. Thus, over these two months, daily calls increased to 148, compared to 117 over the January-June period, or 26.4% more. August was the month with the most interactions of 2024, with 4,475.

In summer, consultations also increased, 24.1% more compared to previous months. And problems linked to gender-based violence have also increased, representing 72% of the total, two points more than in the January-June period.

The largest number of consultations on gender violence concerns exercised in the sphere of the couple and the ex-spousefollowed by sexual violence and, finally, other violence. In addition, thanks to this line, 219 women’s shelters in accommodation resources were managed in July and August, which represents an increase of 48.3% compared to previous months.

The 900 200 999 line is free, confidential, served by “highly specialized” staff and operates every day of the year, in addition to being available in over 50 languages.

Thus, it offers information on the services, programs and activities of the Andalusian Institute of Women and, in general, on all the resources available to women; immediate shelter in case of emergency for women and children victims of gender violencealso channels complaints concerning discrimination in its various manifestations – such as sexist advertising or discrimination in employment -; as well as specialist legal advice for women victims of gender-based violence.

Likewise, it has immediate telephone attention against sexual violence in Andalusia, which includes psychological and legal attention specialized at the time; information and advice on training and diversity, as well as attention to consultations on sexuality and contraceptive methods, attention to trafficked women and girls for the purposes of sexual exploitation and advising businesses on equality matters. Another service is the attention to the online legal advice web channel and the mailbox “900200999.iam@juntadeandalucia.es”.
