The outgoing president of the United States, Joe Biden, has announced his intention to achieve an end to the war in the Gaza Strip in the coming days. In a publication on the social network
“We will make another attempt to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of the hostages and an end to the war, with Hamas removed from power in the enclave,” Biden wrote.
The announcement comes amid continued fighting in Gaza and increased international pressure on Israel and Hamas. A key part of Biden’s plan is said to be not only ceasing the fighting but also creating conditions to remove Hamas from ruling the territory, which remains a difficult task in the current environment.
