Puigdemont believes that “the amnesty is insufficient” and denies that there is “normality” in Catalonia

The former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, demanded that the Spanish State make a “self-criticism” on its reaction after the referendum of October 1 and assured that the amnesty law, although it was “the first reaction after repressive and undemocratic behavior”, is not “sufficient to repair the damage caused to citizens”.

This was expressed during an event organized by the Consell de la República, an entity led by the former president, on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the consultation. He claimed the “force” of the referendum and criticized those who try to govern by turning their backs on it and transforming the Generalitat into a “management office with a politically flat encephalogram”.

“There are not enough erasers to eliminate it from our history,” said Puigdemont and, explicitly referring to President Illa, he considered that we cannot speak of “normality” or “normalization” in Catalonia so much so that some have to “fight with their hands tied behind their backs.

However, Puigdemont assured that he would continue to fight for independence. “We are not throwing in the towel and we never will, especially now that the lack of unity has had disastrous consequences for the nation,” he assured.

ERC urges Junts to “not align” with PP and Vox

The strategy of ERC and Junts in Congress is one of the points where the differences and lack of unity between the pro-independence parties are perceptible. Junts’ vote on single funding is an unknown today and without the support of the people of Puigdemont, it would not take place.

It is for this reason that the deputy general secretary of the ERC, Marta Vilalta, urged Junts to “align with Catalonia and not with the PP and Vox”. In this sense, the Republican severely attacked Puigdemont’s supporters for “allying with the Spanish right” by voting against the regulation of seasonal rentals.

“Let them decide which side of the table they want to be on,” said Vilalta, who assures that his people will be “on the side of Catalonia and will enforce the agreement.”
