“LALIGA informs that it will proceed to formal denunciation and request the immediate arrest of the instigators of a hate campaign aimed at promoting racist and humiliating acts during the next match between Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid, scheduled for September 29, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
The aforementioned campaign constitutes a crime of incitement to hatredclearly characterized in the Code Criminal. LALIGA strongly condemns these actions which, directly or indirectly, encourage, promote and incite hatred against a specific person, in this case the player Vinicius Jr, because of his race, with the help, in addition, of the aggravating circumstances of the articles 3 and 4 of art 510 of the Penal Code, “when the facts are likely to alter public order”.
LALIGA will under no circumstances tolerate this type of behavior. These actions not only harm the image of the sport and our country, but also represent a direct threat to the integrity and well-being of all fans.
Likewise, from LALIGA, we wish to highlight the civic and exemplary behavior of the vast majority of supporters, who have demonstrated a firm commitment to the values of sport. Many of them have actively collaborated in identifying perpetrators of hate crimes in the past, as was the case with the unfortunate incidents of racist shouting. Thanks to their cooperation, we have been able to take the necessary steps to eradicate this type of behavior and ensure an environment of respect in football.”
“Metropolitan with a mask”
Since this Wednesday, the hashtag #MetropolitanoConMascarilla has gone viral on social networks. Atlético supporters intend with this movement that as many people as possible attend Sunday’s derby with a mask, so that Vinicius can be insulted, making it difficult to identify the attacker. Additionally, many racist messages accompany posts with this hashtag.
“’Monicius’ wants there to be no racist insults (sic) and being afraid (sic) to say it, the solution is not to remain silent. #MetropolitanWithMask and slam the cell phone you see,” wrote a user of the social network x. “To tell everything to Vinicius,” called another person using the same hashtag.
