After weeks of refusal, employers are willing to negotiate a reduction in working hours. Antonio Garamendipresident of the CEOE, assured in an interview with ‘The world‘that he is open to listening to the PP’s proposal to rReduce the work week to four days by extending hours.
“We’ll listen to the PP about the four-day work week and if we think it’s bad, we’ll tell them no.“, assured Garamendi. These statements come barely 24 hours after he ironically commented on this idea in ‘Espejo Público’: “Why don’t we work 20 hours instead of 37 and a half hours? I would work 20“.
However, the president of the employers’ union affirms that this change of position is not due to any pressure from the People’s Party.
“Feijóo doesn’t put pressure on me and never has. I also heard him say that in any conciliation approach, the effect on productivity must be taken into account and that the way is social dialogue, that is what we say. No one tells CEOE what to do anyway,” says Garamendi.
However, he assures that to reach an agreement, the Ministry of Labor will have to make concessions. “I don’t know, we’ll have to see what’s put on the table.
