Near and above normal temperatures are forecast for all regions of Russia in December; Below-normal average monthly temperatures are not expected in the first month of winter in any region, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, told Interfax.
“In December there are no regions in the entire country where the temperature is below normal. Everywhere near and above normal, but at the same time there are rare situations where most of the country is expected to have temperatures above normal.” – Vilfand said.
He clarified that in December monthly average temperatures above normal are forecast in the eastern half of the European part of Russia, in the east of the North-Western Federal District, in the east of the Central Federal District, in the entire Volga Federal District, in the Urals, as well as in most of the Siberian Federal District and the northern half of the Far Eastern Federal District.
In the rest of the country, specifically in the rest of European Russia, which includes Moscow and St. Petersburg, in the Central Black Earth Region, in the south of European Russia, in the North Caucasus and in the Southern Federal Districts , the temperature will increase to be close to normal. Near-normal temperatures in December are also forecast in southern and southeastern Siberia, in the southern half of Yakutia, the Amur region, in the south of the Khabarovsk Territory and in Primorye.
“This is because frequent invasions from the Atlantic to the Asian part of the country are expected, which rarely happens,” – Vilfand clarified.
Speaking about precipitation, he said that in the European territory of the country, in most regions of the country, precipitation is expected to be almost normal, but in the south of the Central Federal District, in Ryazan, Voronezh, Tula, Lipetsk, and in the Tambov regions, a precipitation deficit is expected.
In the Asian part of the country, a rainfall deficit is expected in the northern half of Yakutia.
Excessive precipitation in December is forecast in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the Arkhangelsk Region, the Komi and Murmansk Regions, as well as in the northern half of the Ural Federal District, the Perm Territory, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs and Khanty-Mansiysk.
In addition, excessive rainfall is forecast in the southeast of Siberia, specifically in the south of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in the Irkutsk region and Tyva, and in the Far East, in Buryatia, Chukotka and the Magadan region, in the Primorsky Territory .
