A month since the fateful afternoon of October 29during which the sky fell like never before and the water devastated more than seventy Valencian municipalities, residents and businessmen began to receive direct help to mitigate the damage.
The count, however, reveals an uneven speed in distribution. 22 million from the Generalitat Valenciana are already in the pockets of the victims, almost as many as the 20 released by the private initiative of Juan Roigthe president of Mercadona.
In the meantime, the sums promised by the Spanish government have not yet reached the recipients, although the executive emphasizes that it has just ordered the first payments.
The millions delivered so far are only a few tens of hundreds of thousands promisedbut the truth is that the sums began to arrive before a month had passed since the tragedy, which cost the lives of at least 222 people.
According to official figures provided by the Generalitat Valenciana to EL ESPAÑOL, the regional administration had already paid a total of 22.18 million euros this Thursday. In the end, the applications received totaled 28,463, and those received totaled 3,696. 2,673 others were in the correction phase.

‘Alcem-se’
The private initiative of the president of Mercadona deserves a separate chapter, Juan Roigwhich promoted the Alcem-se initiative to help, with direct contributions, the economic fabric submerged by water.
At 11 a.m. this Thursday, while the admission period is already closed, the files received totaled 6,634, among which 6,200 candidates have already been contacted to begin processing.
“They have already been delivered 2,600 donations (already registered in the professional accounts). In total, 20 million euros have already been paid”, underlined sources from Marina de Empresas, the entity which brings together the business school (EDEM) the accelerator (Shuttle) and the investment company (Angels).
The platform, with a total allocation of 25 million euroswas designed “to help SMEs, businesses, startups and self-employed workers affected by DANA”.
“The objective of the initiative is to reactivate the economic fabric of the affected areas as quickly as possible, thus trying to reduce as much as possible the number of businesses that close,” explained Marina de Empresas.
It is about direct non-refundable aid of up to 10,000 euros per company concerned.
