Germany decides to evacuate the families of its diplomats in Israel and Lebanon
Germany announced on Saturday the evacuation of the families of its diplomats in Israel, Lebanon and the West Bank, where it also decided to reduce the staff of its diplomatic missions to what was strictly necessary.
The German Foreign Ministry explained that it had brought together its crisis unit following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli army attack near Beirut, to discuss “The very tense situation in Lebanon and the region after the latest attacks”.
Berlin has decided “raise the crisis level for its missions in Beirut, Ramallah and Tel Aviv”according to the press release. “Concretely, this means that the relatives of the personnel assigned there will leave and go to a safe place in the region or in Germany”the ministry specified. “Service personnel will be reduced, while ensuring that missions can still perform all their tasks”he added.
Germany has already warned its citizens about the risks of traveling to Israel, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories. Previously, Washington ordered the evacuation of the families of its diplomats in Lebanon.
