Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “Baku and Yerevan have made important progress in the normalization process”

“In addition to ensuring sovereignty and territorial integrity, Azerbaijan and Armenia have made significant progress in the normalization process through direct bilateral negotiations, especially with regard to the preparation of a bilateral agreement on the determination and demarcation of the border state”.

This was reported by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov during his speech at the general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on the topic “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the sake of peace, sustainable development and the development of human dignity for present and future generations.”

The minister added that Azerbaijan will continue to move forward in this process with a strong sense of responsibility not only for its national security and well-being, but also for the better future of the entire region:

“Our commitment and determination to bring the normalization process to its logical conclusion remains unchanged. Armenia has not yet legally renounced its territorial claims against Azerbaijan by failing to implement constitutional changes. Armenia’s negligence – a sharp increase in the military budget, “The purchase of large quantities of weapons from both traditional and new suppliers and the failure to implement constitutional changes, combined with attempts to maintain old conflict-based narratives and structures, undermines the normalization process.”
