The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised the problem of landmines in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan at the UN

“The massive contamination of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories with mines and other explosive devices remains a serious obstacle to the smooth progress of recovery and reconstruction efforts.”

“The report” reports that this was stated by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in the general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on the topic “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the good of peace, sustainable development and the development of human dignity for present and future generations. to the attention of politicians.

The minister stressed that since the end of the Second Karabakh War, 377 people, including civilians, have been victims of landmines.

“With this in mind, Azerbaijan has defined the 18th Sustainable Development Goal dedicated to demining activities as a national objective. Taking into account the magnitude of the problem, international support and its increase is necessary to strengthen Azerbaijan’s humanitarian potential on the of demining,” said Jeyhun Bayramov.

The minister also expressed his gratitude to all countries and stakeholders who contributed to the humanitarian demining work in the territories of Azerbaijan.
