In an incident at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, a woman was able to get past multiple levels of security and board a Delta Air Lines plane without a ticket or identification.
According to the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the offender took advantage of the New Year’s rush. He walked around the two identification check areas where passengers must show identification and headed to the boarding gate.
During the flight, which lasted more than seven hours, the woman hid in the bathroom. It was found near the end of the route. According to one of the passengers in the cabin, the flight attendants noticed suspicious behavior. The criminal moved from one bathroom to another.
After landing at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, the crew asked all passengers to remain seated to allow French border guards to board the plane. “We flew from New York to Paris with an illegal passenger. Somehow she got on the plane, hid in the bathroom before takeoff and went unnoticed for almost the entire flight,” a witness said on Instagram.
US federal authorities have launched an investigation. Delta Air Lines is also conducting an internal review. In a statement to the New York Post, a spokesperson for the airline said: “Nothing is more important to us than safety. “We are working closely with aviation authorities and law enforcement agencies to determine how this happened.”
At this time it is unknown if the attacker was arrested.
