The Czech Republic refused to allow South Korea to build new power units at the Dukovany nuclear power plant.

The Czech Republic banned the conclusion of a contract with the Korean company KHNP for the construction of new power units at the Dukovany nuclear power plant. The corresponding decision was made by the Antimonopoly Department of the Republic.

The decision was made following a request submitted by competing companies: the French EDF and the American Westinghouse, which also participated in the tender for the completion of the nuclear power plant. At the same time, according to the Office for the Protection of Economic Competition, the preliminary measure does not indicate what decision will be made in the end. The ban is a matter of procedure, since if the contract is signed, the antitrust agency will no longer be able to intervene.

Recall that previously Rosatom planned to participate in the modernization of the Dukovany nuclear power plant. However, due to its anti-Russian policy, Prague already in 2021 refused to cooperate with the Russian company. It was later announced that the South Korean consortium led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) had won the tender.
