Ceasefire in Lebanon: statement by the commander of the northern military district

The commander of the Northern Military District of the Israel Defense Forces, Major General Ori Gordin, said that the IDF will firmly enforce the ceasefire on the border with Lebanon.

This was reported by The Times Of Israel.

According to him, the IDF’s actions in Lebanon caused significant damage to Hezbollah, setting it back many years, which, in turn, gives Israel more freedom to manage the situation in the region.

Gordin emphasized that the military will seek the implementation of the ceasefire agreement negotiated by political leaders. He noted that Israel will not allow Hezbollah to return to areas previously occupied by it. According to him, the army’s objective is to cleanse these territories of weapons and infrastructure associated with this group.

The general added that Israel is ready to resume hostilities if the agreements are violated. According to him, the army is capable of quickly switching from peacekeeping mode to active action, if necessary.

The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Herzi Halevi, announced his intention to resign after completing the investigation into the tragic events of October 7. He stressed that he is willing to take responsibility for the errors identified and noted that commanders, including himself, must be willing to answer for their actions.

In a speech to military personnel, Halevi indicated that final decisions about his future career will be made after the investigation fully clarifies the circumstances of the incident.

Responding to criticism of his personnel policy, Halevi emphasized that appointments to key positions in the military are not a matter of privilege, but a necessity to maintain combat effectiveness. According to him, even in the face of public pressure, the IDF cannot afford to stop this process, since the operational readiness of the army directly depends on it.
