A squat building and several shantytowns located in the Madrid district of Tetuán burned this morning, causing the eviction of the people who were in the place, as well as residents of adjacent buildings. Firefighters from Madrid City Hall are working to put out the fire.
The two-story building, according to Urgences Madrid, located at number 17 Jaén Street, was affected by a fire throughout the structure. The flames intensified due to the presence of grass, garbage and sheds located in the patio of the property, as well as on its exterior facade, at the rear of it.
The Samur-Civil Protection emergency services only came to the aid of one person, who had inhaled the smoke from the fire, while the Madrid City Hall firefighters worked to put it out, so that the origin of the fire is still unknown.
The fire therefore left a large column of smoke which alarmed the residents of the neighborhood. However, this would not be the first time that the site on which this now burned building is located has caused a fire in the area.
For years, as this newspaper reported in 2023, a group of squatters have lived in this property. Even though another fire two years ago forced it to be condemned, they managed to return.
