Ceasefire efforts with Israel continue

Lebanese Information Minister Ziad Makari told a cabinet meeting that diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire with Israel were still “ongoing.”

“Of course, the Lebanese government wants a ceasefire and everyone knows that [премьер-министр Биньямин] Netanyahu went to New York based on the premise of a ceasefire, but the decision was made to kill Nasrallah,” Makari said, referring to the killing of the head of the Hezbollah terrorist group in an airstrike in Beirut on Friday.

“Diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire continue. The Prime Minister is not discouraged, but the matter is not that simple,” Makari said.

The United States was reportedly angered by the IDF airstrike on Nasrallah as it spent the week discussing the details of a possible ceasefire with Israel. The United States felt they had been deceived.

On Friday, a senior Israeli official, speaking to foreign journalists about the IDF attack on Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, said Jerusalem took the step in the hope it would allow it to avoid a ground invasion.

On Saturday, Defense Minister Yoav Galant’s office said he had met with IDF chief Herzi Halevi and other senior generals to discuss expanding the offensive in Lebanon.

US President Joe Biden stated yesterday: “The time has come for a ceasefire.”

The cursor recalls that the Lebanese army made an unusual statement to citizens.

Previously, Cursor wrote that Iran responded to Israel’s liquidation of the deputy head of the IRGC.
