98% of CEOs plan to increase their headcount this year, says KPMG report

98% of Spanish business leaders assure that will increase its workforce throughout the yearwhich is eight percentage points more than last year, according to the report ‘KPMG CEO Outlook for 2024‘. The report also shows that when it comes to the economy as a whole, executives also remain optimistic, with eight in ten confident in its growth.

Almost all Spanish senior managers surveyed (98%) plan to increase their teamseight percentage points above the last edition. Additionally, 42% expect it to do so above 6%. Concerning the evolution of their own companies, managers remain optimistic since 76% are confident they will grow over the next three years. This percentage is, however, ten points lower than that of 2023.

The challenge of artificial intelligence

Furthermore, the percentage of managers who do not have confidence in the growth of their company in the medium term has not changed compared to the last edition and remains at 4%. Respondents expect their income to increase over the next three years and 68% believe the increase will be more than 2.5%. Regarding the implementation of Artificial Intelligence, 60% of Spanish managers will invest in this technology whatever the economic situation. 72% consider that this investment will only start to bear fruit for at least three years.

On the other hand, eight in ten are concerned about the ethical aspects of using AI in their organizations, but they exclude that this technology will significantly reduce the number of jobs, while recognizing that it will involve updating the knowledge and skills of employees.

For six in ten respondents, the capabilities and skills required by generative AI represent a challenge for its implementation. In fact, only 28% of those surveyed consider that their employees are trained to take advantage of the potential of this innovation. Regarding risks that threaten growth, 20% believe that cybersecurity constitutes the main risk to the growth of their organization in the medium term.
