“There is no truce. Every day a scandal, a court summons, an accusation.” There is no one better than Núñez Feijóo to define the strategy of harassment and political-media-judicial demolition against the government. The previous quote is his, this Thursday in front of a business audience. He intended to emphasize the unsustainable nature of the situation, but his subconscious betrayed him and ended up revealing the strategy: relentless. Every day a scandal. Every day a summons to court, every day an accusation. That’s what it’s about. Let the rhythm not stop.
We have been witnessing the same sequence for months, with always the same protagonists: the right-wing press, far-right organizations (Clean Hands, Christian Lawyers, etc.), parliamentarians from PP and Vox, and a few judges. Some publish scandalous information about the government or the president’s family; others cut off the news and leave it to the court; others push him around during control sessions and commissions of inquiry; and finally a judge admits the complaint, opens an investigation, calls witnesses and ends up indicting. Mission accomplished.
