“The right has stolen from us the notion of freedom”

It was the highlight of the weekend of the First Autumn School organized by Adelante Andalucía, the training founded by Therese RodriguezIn Marinaleda (Seville): the debate table on sovereignty, with the participation of deputies Oskar Matute (Bildu) and Gabriel Rufian (ERC), in addition to Laure Vega, of the CUP, Ana Miranda of the BNG and José Ignacio García, of Before Andalusia. However, the presence of the two deputies was the one that aroused the most expectations and reactions among all the presentations and debates organized since last Friday.

While the hall of the Marinaleda Workers’ Union was filled with people, Oskar Matute, deputy of Picturesand Gabriel Rufián, ERC spokesperson in Congress, agreed that the left-wing independence movement is losing against “the right and the extreme right”, because “it stole from us the concepts of freedom and order“, indicated Rufián. Matute went further, also recognizing the weakness of the PSOE-Sumar government. Because, he explained, “we can give our votes to what is not PP and Vox. And that won’t stop them from reaching the power. “There is so much we need to recover that we cannot afford to take a step back or gain momentum.”

In front of a devoted audience, the Bildu deputy began by declaring that “what you say here matters much more to me than the people to whom we are faced at the Congress of Deputies.” He then thanked Adelante Andalucía for the invitation because “I know it is not easy to invite Euskal Herria Bildu depending on what.” He then launched into explaining the differences between sovereignty, nationalism or separatism, because ” “The concept of sovereignty could have been replaced by nationalism or separatism, and that is not exactly the case.”

Oskar Matute also assured that “in Euskal Herria, the Basques are all those who live in Euskal Herria. There we can offer an image of being more tolerantwhen others are now talking about quotas“, referring to the debate on immigration and the distribution of unaccompanied minors.”

“At the beginning of the 21st century, a revolutionary process began in Venezuela,” which, he explained, “reminds me of Euskal Herria at the time” because of the appearance of graffiti about “independence and socialism”. Why, if Venezuela has been independent for 200 years? » he wondered. According to him, Matute stressed that “socialism is not an end in itself, but a practical what to do each day. And being a sovereign state does not guarantee in itself be independent.”

He clarified that “our road map It is about obtaining sovereignty to achieve radical democracy and return all power to the working class. » On the other hand, the Spanish state tells us: “we will find a way for you to integrate. I don’t want to be integrated into a regime of inequality. I I don’t want to be integrated more than with the Basque people.

About the Catalan quota

Regarding the political framework, he warned that “those who consider that the struggle of the Basque or Catalan people breaks a common framework will tell you that if you do not realize that the idea of a united Spain is built by the economic elites, not by the working classes, I don’t think so. an Andalusian day laborer bother because a Basque worker prospers. » Finally, he emphasized that sovereignty “is the highest state of freedom”.

For his part, Gabriel Rufian He began his speech by stating that “for me, it’s something new to speak in front of people with good face and that he wants to listen to me, because I always speak in front of questionable people.

Explaining sovereignty “is complicated but at the same time simple. It’s about being aware of who you are, who is the cause of the oppression you experience, and rebelling against that. And to be aware that this rebellion will have a cost terrible personal and media”, and this because those of ERC “we are not the PSOE”he quipped.

Likewise, he warned that “you cannot be a sovereignist if you are not a republican”. He explained it to me years ago. Joan Tarda. To be a Republican is to understand that no one is more than others. » For this reason, he gave Marinaleda as an example, “an example of sovereignty”, since “roof and bread are guaranteed, in Marinaleda”.

Finally, he underlined that “the right and the extreme right have stolen from the left concepts which we must recover. The first is freedom and the second is order. “To be left-wing and Republican is to have order.”

The Autumn School took place this weekend in a place chosen not by chance: Marinaleda represents “an Andalusian symbol of endurancethat it is possible to do things differently in a historic city of the daily workers’ movement”, as explained by the training of Teresa Rodríguez. For three days, forums, conferences, tables, training and workshops, on topics such as Palestine, Andalusian capitalism, environmentalism, touristification, feminism or anti-fascism, among other topics.
