The vice president and deputy for employment and tourist promotion of the Provincial Delegation of Toledo, Joaquín Romera, together with the mayor of Esquivias, Almudena González, participated in the presentation of the XLV Cervantes Conference of this city, which will be held from December 1 to 12, and to which the provincial institution collaborates financially. “Certain days declared of Regional Tourist Interest, which not only constitute a cultural event of the first magnitude, but also contribute to promote tourism and generate wealth, employment and development“, remarked Romera.
The presentation press conference was also attended by the head of the Cervantes House Museum, Susana García; and the councilor for culture and tourism, Jonathan Truchado; to give details of this already traditional cultural event which commemorates the anniversary of the marriage between Miguel de Cervantes and Catalina de Salazar, originally from this city.
“This year commemorates the 440th anniversary of the celebration of this marriage, which took place on December 12, 1584, and which united not only the lives of this famous couple, but also Esquivias forever with the most universal figure and with. his immortal work ‘Don Quixote'”, underlined Romera, who confirmed the support of the provincial government for an event “that converts for a few days this town in the region of La Sagra at the nerve center of culture and literature“.
The Vice President recalled that the staging of the wedding of Cervantes and Catalina, with simultaneous theatrical performances in the streets and squares, will once again be the highlight of the program, which also includes dramatized visits to the Cervantes House Museum, exhibitions, theaters, conferences. , workshops for children and gastronomic events. “All this around the figure of the most recognized author of our literature and one of the most read and translated works in the world, an indispensable reference in universal literature,” he underlined.
In this sense, he recognized the importance of the Cervantes Days of Esquivias, “for what they represent as a boost to cultural and domestic tourism, but also for the involvement of an entire people proud to claim what Miguel de Cervantes and Catalina de Salazar in the history of Esquivias and the province” and encouraged all citizens to participate in a celebration that will take them back to the 16th century, “because I’m sure it won’t disappoint you.”
For her part, the mayor of Esquivias, Almudena González, thanked the Provincial Delegation of Toledo for “its support and collaboration”, as well as all those who make these days possible, the visitors and “all those involved in “This little madness and that they do work where we can see love, good work and generosity to put our people in the place they deserve.
