By killing the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement, Hassan Nasrallah, Israeli authorities want to provoke Iran into responding harshly, but that should not be expected from Tehran, says international relations expert Movses Ghazaryan.
“We can hardly expect a harsh reaction from Tehran, if only because Tehran does not currently have weapons of mass destruction. Nuclear weapons. I think that, most likely, the Houthis, that is, other pro-Iran representatives, will become more active. While official Tehran will not be able to afford decisive and difficult measures,” — Channel Five quotes the political scientist.
Ghazaryan is confident that all of Iran’s actions will be aimed at maintaining security in its own country, given its resource situation.
The political scientist believes that it is in Iranian diplomacy’s interest to engage in some type of dialogue with Western countries to lift sanctions and begin to develop the Iranian economy. Israel’s goal is to provoke Tehran to take very harsh measures, which Israel could show the entire West in the perspective it needs, Ghazaryan noted.
