The Navarrese group Teatro en la Chácena wins the National Oceans of Calamities Competition for its work ‘1789’

The work ‘1789’, by Navarrese Theater Group in La Chácenawon the “Best Show” prize at the V edition of the National Amateur Theater Competition in Pedrola (Aragon). He the jury also rewarded Josune Iglesiasas “Best Direction”, to Laura Montes as “Best Costume Design” and to José Montes with the “Delay Award” for his “excellent work highlighting the work of the direction and its importance for amateur theater“.

The La Chácena Theater thus becomes the winner of the competition after receiving the “Best Show” awardthus the jury and the public coincide, since it was already announced last week that it had won the Special Public Prize after obtaining the highest average score of all the participating groups.

La Chácena Theater, the company with the most nominations of this editionparticipated in this competition with a choral work on the French Revolution, created in June 2023 in Gayarre Theater in Pamplona. The show is once again recognized after also winning the Best Show award at the Juan Mayorga Awards in April.

THE work, directed and adapted by Josune Iglesiasputs into the mouths of ordinary French people some events of the early years of the French Revolution. Artisans turned actors tell how they experienced the explosion of joy, the fading of hopes and the collapse of dreams of equality.

A production that includes satire, tragedy, puppetry and theater buffa, among other genres. Josune Iglesias doesn’t just direct the cast of Ein the Chacenabut also the members of the San Miguel de Aoiz Choir to recreate the French people during the revolution.

Furthermore, they had been nominees also for best actor (Adrián González); Best Actress (Karen Errea); Best scenography; Best Lighting Editing (Andrea Amorena and Ibai Baztán) and Best Original Dramaturgy or Adaptation (Josune Iglesias).

Theatrical career in La Chácena

In the Chacéna is a group of young amateur theater composed of around twenty actors and actresses, mostly from Pamplona. For almost a decade, they have released half a dozen works with which they have achieved public recognition and a good number of awards at the local and national level.

with his work Cabaret won the awards for Best Costume Design and Best Leading Actor at the VIII Juan Mayorga Prize; with a storythe award for the best amateur show for children in Spain in the 2022 edition, and with another story, the prize for best children’s play and best stage costumes in 2023. With “1789” they have already won the prize for best show, best direction and best costumes at the Juan Mayorga awards in 2024.
