The Madrid Provincial Court has suspended its deliberations on the trial opened against Begoña Gómez and the appeals of the president’s wife and the prosecution to archive the file. The judges of the court explain that they need more information on the appeal presented by Gómez’s defense throughout the proceedings and criticize the fact that the court did not refer to these allegations in its ” short testimony. The judges, for the moment, have not set a date for a new meeting to decide whether to delimit in any way the trial that Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has kept open for months against Begoña Gomez.
One of the sections of the Madrid court had set this Monday as the date to study the resources with which the prosecution and Begoña Gómez herself requested the file of the case, criticizing, among other things, the “prospective” nature of the procedure which Peinado remains open for several months at the request of Clean Hands and other popular accusations like Vox or HazteOir.
Deliberations have been suspended and currently have no date. The court explains that in reviewing the proceedings it discovered that Gómez appealed directly against one of Peinado’s orders and that, however, the court did not make “reference” to it in the “brief testimony” sent at the Provincial Court of Madrid. This appeal, the court admits, is “relevant to the deliberations” and should delay a decision.
On July 1, Judge Peinado issued an order in which he responded to Begoña Gómez’s multiple requests for information on the exact reason for her accusation. That day, the judge’s response was that she was under investigation for “all acts, conduct and behavior committed since her husband became president of the Spanish government and contained in the initial complaint.” Gómez appealed this order directly to the Madrid court.
