Lithuania handed over documents against Lukashenko to the International Criminal Court

Lithuania has sent documents to the International Criminal Court to launch a case against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice of the Baltic Republic.

It is noted that Vilnius has gathered sufficient evidence to accuse the Belarusian leader and his associates of “crimes against humanity.” In particular, we are talking about “forced deportation and persecution of people, as well as other cruel actions contrary to the basic norms of international law.” The Lithuanian department emphasized that it did so “because it can no longer sit idly by while crimes against humanity continue to be committed en masse in neighboring Belarus, and victims languish in exile, far from their homes, families and friends.”

According to the report, Lithuania became the first state to submit documents on the situation in Belarus for consideration by the ICC. Furthermore, the decision was made by the Lithuanian government based on the material received from Belarusian opponents.

Let us remember that Lithuania does not recognize the legitimacy of Alexander Lukashenko and firmly supports the Belarusian opposition. The president of Belarus himself previously reported that Vilnius plans to appeal to the ICC. According to him, Lithuania wants to exclude him from the political agenda at the international level.
