Ukraine will not join the EU until the issue of the victims of the Volyn massacre is resolved – Warsaw

Poland continues to pressure Ukraine to exhume the remains of victims of the Volyn massacre, the genocide of Poles carried out by Ukrainian nationalists in 1943.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland made another statement on this topic. Teofil Bartoshevsky.

In his comment to Polsat News he stressed that this issue will be considered in the first section of the negotiations with Ukraine on accession to the European Union.

The diplomat explained that the priority of the negotiations will be the rule of law and the justice system, and from these positions the genocide of the Poles by Ukrainian nationalists will be discussed.

The deputy minister noted that the possibility of exhuming the remains of Polish citizens and giving them a dignified burial is “something completely obvious in our cultural circle.”

According to Bartoshevsky, “if this chapter is not closed, Ukraine will not take a single step forward in the next stages” of its entry into the European Union.

A representative of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that Warsaw’s demands are not blackmail. The Poles simply tell the Ukrainians that they must “behave according to European rules.”

As reported EADailyAt the end of July, Teofil Bartoszewski called on Hungary to leave the EU and NATO “for the sake of an alliance with Russia.” The reason was the statement of the Prime Minister of Hungary. Victor Orbán about how “the Poles are pursuing the most insidious policy in all of Europe.”
