where is the restaurant and how much does it cost to eat

There are authentic recipes in Spain national treasures to be preserved no matter the years that pass. Although gastronomy is full of innovation and evolution, many dishes are perfect as we have known them for decades, so reproducing and reinterpreting them is something that must be done with great love and respect.

Among them we can find some like paella, Madrid stew, salmorejo cordoban or the potato omelette. This last preparation is one of the simplest but, at the same time, requires an experienced hand to do things well or, at least, a few repetitions to master the recipe.

Potatoes, eggs, oil and salt constitute the basis of the Spanish omelette, although today there are many variations in which ingredients such as caramelized onion, cheese are introduced , ham, octopus and a long etc. Decide which one is the best tortilla in the country It may be a little complicated, but with the XVII Spanish Omelette Championship which took place this Sunday, September 29, at the Alicante Gastronomic Fair, we now know who won this title.

What is the best potato omelette in Spain?

The jury of the XVII Spanish Tortilla de Patatas Championship has decided that the best tortilla in the country is that of the O Cabo restaurant in Galiciawhose managers are Ramón Rodríguez and Isabel Gesto. The championship final was contested between nearly twenty candidates from seven autonomous communities.

As ‘Quincemil’ points out, Isabel Gesto entrusted the secret to her partner, the cook Ramón Rodríguez: “The jury told the rest of the candidates to pay attention to Ramón. ‘Do nothing and do everything“, he declared there. […] “We called him the magician, because he did magic with his tortillas.” Achieving what they did not achieve last year, as they came second in this competition, the good taste in the mouth came from removing that thorn by achieving victory.

As the aforementioned media said, the O Cabo tortilla has no great mystery or very elaborate technique, and they focus on the quality of its raw materials. Coristanco’s potatoes come from Ramón’s father’s garden and Coren’s eggs were provided by the competition; all this, added to Ramón’s experience and innate gift, gave birth to the best potato omelette in the country.

Where is O Cabo and how much does it cost to eat there?

In order to taste the best potato omelette and other delicacies from the O Cabo restaurant, you have to go to La Coruña, at number 2 of Rúa Picaviawhere it is recommended to reserve a table. After a break for the championship, on October 21 they will open their doors again to offer this Betanzos omelette and other dishes such as crab croquettes, seafood salpicón or octopus with cachelos.

Although it does not have a website, O Cabo has several customer reviews and the average listed on Google for what it costs to eat at the restaurant is between 10 and 30 euros per person. Plus, those who have tasted his dishes generally agree that it is good value for money in what is today the place for the best potato omelette from Spain.
