Social groups call for protests after a year of genocide in Gaza: “We expect a human wave”

A year after the start of the brutal Israeli offensive against Gaza, in which nearly 42,000 people died, the State Network of Solidarity with Palestine (RESCOP) called for protests across Spain on 5 and October 6 to return to ask the Spanish government for an arms embargo against Israel and other measures to end the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.

“What is happening now in Palestine is a genocide, it is not a conflict. The figures are scandalous,” Saïda, president of the Spanish-Palestinian Community of Jerusalem, denounced this Tuesday during a press conference.

“We need effective measures to end the genocide. The inaction of the international community gives Israel the feeling of impunity. Silence fuels the regime of impunity from which Israel enjoys. “This sets a very dangerous precedent not only for Palestine but for the international order,” he added.

This is why “the solidarity of the international community is very important”. Saida has asked to participate in next weekend’s protests in all Spanish cities. In Madrid, the demonstration will leave Atocha on Saturday 5 at 6:00 p.m. and will head towards Puerta del Sol “We are waiting for a human wave for justice, dignity, humanity, for Palestine and also for Lebanon.”

From the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement, Nadwa Hashash said that “we cannot remain indifferent to the enormous suffering of the Palestinian population, particularly in the Gaza Strip.” The activist regretted that the Spanish delegation did not stand up at the UN General Assembly when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke, as did representatives of other countries.

This Tuesday, Nadwa recalled the 14 measures proposed by the UN rapporteurs for the boycott and isolation of Israel, and defended that “similar measures worked in South Africa” against the apartheid regime . “None of these actions have been adopted by Spain,” he added, and that is why we must demand it in the streets.

“Political leadership is necessary to be up to the task. We call on our government to stand on the side of human rights,” he concluded.

Several representatives from the world of culture were present at the press conference and joined the call from social organizations to take to the streets on the 5th and 6th.

Mar Gimena, representative of the Desarma Madrid organization, denounced that “Spain sells to Israel more than a billion war products that are used against the Palestinian population”, in addition to buying Israeli defense equipment. “We must call for an arms embargo now, without weapons Israel could not continue to massacre the Palestinian people,” he said at the press conference.

Daniel, an activist from the Palestinian camp in Madrid, called for solidarity from “all social, trade union and political movements coinciding with the first anniversary of the genocide” in Gaza and added that “the invasion of Lebanon represents a new stage in the imperialist policy of Israel. policy.

The young man assured that “the mobilizations must continue and will intensify until Palestine is free, from the river to the sea”.
